Issue testing the Creo Parametric Toolkit Installation

$

As a disclaimer I'm new to this and already not familiar with computers in this sense, so I could be missing something very basic.

I am getting an error when I try to build the make_install visual studio file. I think it is due to the environment variable PROE_INSTALL_PATH having an incorrect script but it looks correct to me.

I've set the variable path to C:\Program~Files\PTC\Creo~2.0\Parametric\, as it says to set to the parametric installation directory.

When I build make_install from MS Visual C++ 2010 Express I receive the following error:

1>------ Build started: Project: make_install, Configuration: Debug Win32 ------

1>

1>  Microsoft (R) Program Maintenance Utility Version 10.00.30319.01

1>  Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation.  All rights reserved.

1>

1>NMAKE : fatal error U1073: don't know how to make 'C:\PTC\Creo~2.0\Parametric\\protoolkit/protk_appls/pt_install_test/pt_install_src/TestInstall.c'

1>  Stop.

1>C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Microsoft.Cpp\v4.0\Microsoft.MakeFile.Targets(38,5): error MSB3073: The command "nmake /f make_install dll" exited with code 2.

========== Build: 0 succeeded, 1 failed, 0 up-to-date, 0 skipped ==========

Why is the path using forward slashes after protoolkit? That part is automatically generated, so to me there is no way it can create a valid path..

I tried switching the variable path to:  C:/Program~Files/PTC/Creo~2.0/Parametric/

but all that did was reverse the error to read:  'C:/PTC/Creo~2.0/Parametric//protoolkit\protk_appls\pt_install_test\pt_install_src\TestInstall.c'

What's the deal with this? Any help to get this working would be greatly appreciated.

Creo 2 M020/M030/M050

Does anyone have any input on Creo Parametric 2.0 M050?

We have been using Creo 2.0 M030 & PDMLink 9.1 for a while very stable. But now PTC announced that M050 is the official compatible build with Windchill 9.1

M030 of course fixed a lot of M020 bugs. including the infamous graphic issue where it wouldn't show a large radius, instead it would show a straight line. etc...

Imporper Assembling encountered.

I have a generic part that I have an exploded view that I show as a side view so that I can "see inside the box".

exploded_generic.jpg

Then I have an instance of that generic that I am trying to show the exploded view.

exploded_instance.jpg

Circled in red above is:

Improper assembling encountered.

Assembly components have been successfully exploded.

Cannot animate as current explode state is unsaved.

Improper assembling encountered.

I have never had this pop up before. Typically the instances all show up as the same as the generic. I walked though the tree to see if there was any errors in assembly, but there was none that I could see (or that showed up in red as errors).

Any clues as to what may be happening.

Thanks,

Dale

Move from one CAD Package to Another

Hi Everyone,

I am looking to get information and data regarding the costs and pain points of moving from one cad package to another for a study I am doing.

If anyone has done this recently and has data that they would be willing to share that would be great.

I'm looking for data about the following: -

User Adoption - how long was it until your users become as efficient as the previous cad package

User Training - How much training

Data Migration - How long did it take for your data sets to be upto data and how large were they

Did you use Professional services

Estimated ROI and Actual ROI (can put as % if $ value not allowed)

Any other relevant information

If any of you are willing to share this information that would be fantastic as the more I can get the more thorough my report will be.  If you would rather not post the information then please send it directly to ccollinson@dek.com

If any of you are going to PTC Live next week and would be able to catch up and discuss this then please e-mail me ccollinson@dek.com

Thanks in advance to all

CREO wishlist

Hi,

Ive been working with CREO 2.0 for a few months now, after moving from Wildfire 5. I do think its a big improvement generally (viually and speed), but there are still a lot of things that could be improved, making it easier for me to work with as a mechanical engineer, designing heavy machinery. So in no particular order:

1. It would be really nice If I were able to drag a component from one window to the next, to be able to mate it quickly to an assembly (or dragging parts from one modeltree to another).

2. It would be nice to be able to right mouse button click on a component and the pop-up menu will have to option: "copy name". The same counts for "open corresponding drawing".

3. In ProE, if you clicked on a part in an assembly once, the name would show in the message log, from where I could copy the name of the part. This no longer works in CREO.

4. I always try to postpone creating instances from parts, because after that, Im no longer able to replace the part by a copy within CREO. I dont like copying parts in windchill because the interface is slow and tacky.

5. Windchill uses a browser interface, the "go-back" button rarely works properly however.

6. Please stop reserving space for the menu-manager, it's not 1994 and I need all the monitor space I can possibly have.

    Same for the "activating windows".

7. I would like to be able to place parameters as text in the model window and be able to modify values. It makes the parameter values more untuitive and     transparant to the user instead of opening the parameters table in a pop-up window. I now get this done with help of annotation features but its clumsy.

Ive uploaded an example of this on: http://grabcad.com/library/large-canvas-frame-and-canvas-creo-skeleton-parametric-driven-sheetmetal-1

8. All different creo models (asm. prt, drw) have the same icons in the windows taskbar, Pro Engineer did not have this issue.

9. please make it possible to turn off the 3d dragger in config.pro. I do not use it. Same for the "smart mating" functionality.

10. please bring back sweep with internal sketch

11. when I doubleclick on a part in an assembly, I would like the part to be activated (after which I can

easily modify dimensions). Now, nothing happens, which is a shame.

Im curious what others think about this, let me know!

Drawing dtl file

Hi, is there a list of drawing options, explanations & values in the help centre? In the help centre, under books, there are configuration options, but these are not the drawing options. It would be nice to see all the possible options in a format similar to the way the config options are laid out.

Hi,

I have been using Creo 2.0 M020 and suddenly it stopped working. I got the windows information "Creo 2.0 is not working and must be closed"

After several trials to repair it (unisntalling the QManagement, Reinstalling the M020, Installing the M050,...) I got no way of getting it to work.

Anyone could help me? thank you in advance!

Exporting Microstation DGN to Creo

Good Morning Forum,

I am trying to export a tunneling and stations 3D model from Microstation DGN to Creo Elements as a design partner uses Creo and we use MS. We are having a lot of difficulties. It seems the 2 formats are not very compatible.

So far we learn that the STEP file or STP file format may be best but our exports from MS to this format dont appear to be very good, say the partner.

Secondly, we have no way of knowing how our export looks as we have no Creo viewing software so i thought id try the free Creo Viewer but this appears to be limited to 60 'parts'. I don't know what are classed as 'Parts' so don't know how to try to export my model to below this limit??! Are there any other free viewers for Creo elements or this file type i can use to verify my export? My company wont buy it for just this work but need some way of verifying our exports.

Any information on the subject would be gratefully received

Creating perfect circular dimple (cut) on a circular surface (ring)

I have a ring and on the surface of that ring I am trying to create a perfect cicle dimple cut.  The problem is that since the surface I'm trying to cut into is circular the round dimple turns into an oval.  Is there any way to make this feature so that looking down on the ring, this dimple looks like a perfect circle? Here is a picture of the ovular dimple on the ring.

Hopefully I've explained myself.

Drafting help needed..

Long time lurker, first time poster...

I have a drawing view consisting of a 60-hole bolt circle.  I did a Show Model Annotation to display the centerline of the bolt circle, which includes the center line tick marks for each hole.  I then edited the the bolt circle pattern to add an an additional 4-holes.  The problem I'm having is I'm unable to get the center line tick marks for the new holes to show in the drawing view.  I've regenerated the model, updated the views...I tried to show the axis for the new hole directly via the model tree, all to no avail.  I can get them to show if I create a new view and show model annotations.

Vertical draft of a hole angled 45 degress

Hi.

I want to make a hole that is angled 45 degress in a mould opening vertically. I have tried to sketch below how I imagine the mould parts to look like.

draftcross.JPG

When doing a draft analysis it looks almost fine. I just need to get rid of the "rainbow" area in the middle and have a "clean cut" going from blue to pink with no transisition.

Any good ideas on how to do that?

Imported .stp file has different line style than other geometry in the drawing

I imported a .stp file and added it to an assembly.  The geometry of that part has a different line color than the rest of the geometry in the assembly.  I have other imported .stp files in the assembly that are displayed correctly.  What could be wrong with this part, and how can I fix it?

Trouble Converting .prt to .stl

Hello,

I am doing research this summer on breast cancer detection systems. Therefore, I created a model of a breast in creo 1.0 parametrics as a part (prt.) and would now like to 3D print my model. The 3D printer I am using is a Makerbot which accepts files only with .stl or .obj extensions. I first tried to 'save as' my breast model (.prt) file as a .stl file but that extension was not a option in the drop down menu so I selected the .obj extension. But when I tried to go look for this 'save as' file, I couldn't find it.

I then created an assembly file (.asm) and placed my breast model (.prt) in to it. I again 'save as' my assembly file as both a .stl and .obj file and successfuly found both files. Yet, when I tried to open them in Makerware, the software said it did not support my file. I was wondering if someone could help me out in converting my .prt file to an .stl or .obj file?

Attached is the .asm file I have been trying to convert and both of my unsuccessful file conversions (.stl and .obj). Please take a look and see for yourself what I am talking about.

Thanks for you help, I really appreciate it!

I am doing summer research on breast cancer detection systems. I created a breast model (.prt) file but can't convert it to a .stl file in order to 3D print. Attached below is the STEP file of the original .prt file I am having trouble with. Please take a look to see if you can determine where I am having problems. Thank you!

Create hex/pentagon shaped dimples on a circular surface.

Okay, I know  we just had a huge long discussion on round dimples on a circular surface while keeping the round dimple profile.  This truly is for a purpose, I'm not just trying to waste time.  It is the same concept but instead of a circular dimple I'm trying to create a hex or pentagon shaped dimple.  If you are familiar with golfing, look at a callaway golf ball dimple pattern, it is a pentagon.  It is that same concept but as opposed to a spherical shape I'm trying to put that on a circular shape just like my last discussion.

Hex.jpg

Example of the callaway golf ball dimple and an image I found that might be helpful.  I've been playing with this for a while and can't figure out how to do it.  The bottom of the dimple doesn't have to be perfectly spherical, in fact that's impossible.  I do want it to be or appear as smooth or spherical as possible however.

Hi all,

I have a flex pipe and a pipe in my auto-selection file. What could be the reason, that when I create a pipeline I can only choose the sizes of the pipe and not the ones of the flex pipe?
