Changing default welding symbol

How can i change the default welding symbol, which is automatically added after creating a weld? I just made a corner weld (fillet) and i would like to have my annotation on it right now. Tried to "redefine" in symbol gallery, but no luck - maybe i did something wrong.

I would like to have annotation without numbers which says how many welds are in here and without the lenght of the weld. I would like to have it simple - just the symbol of the weld (triangle ...) and the thickness.

Could you tell me how?

Maybe could i somehow use the one which i attached?

Sheet Metal Flat State Calculation difference between PRO-E & Inventor.

$

Hello ,

I would like to know how any of you have managed a transitition from Autocad Inventor to PRO-E for sheet metal components, especially for flat state.

Current Scenario in my organiztion : Inventor is used for developing sheet metal drawings. The Flat state dimensions for Sheet metal component is also given in the same drawing. This is done by inputting the k-factor values as per sheet thickness and material.

After migration to PRO-E , for the same sheet metal component , after inputting the same k-factor value , we have a difference in the flat state value of the sheet metal component.

This could have an impact on the sheet metal component during manufacturing.

Why does PRO-E and Inventor throw up different flat state values for the same k-factor , thickness and Material?

Has anyone come across a similar scenario?

Currently you can create a planar cross section and included quilts, but not a n offset cross section.

Would anyone else like to see this funtionality added to offset cross section?

Creo on 32-bit with PAE memory blast to access 4g

$

Hoping someone has some experience with this.

I used PTC/Creo on a home computer  (windows 7 32-bit 3g ram).  (I also have it at school with 4g, 64-bit, no problems)

Realizing that Creo really requires a min of 4g to really use.  (Especially on the assembly stuff, constraining in a video blanked world is no fun)

I decided to upgrade to 4g.   Then I realize that windows 7 32-bit doesn't really do 4g.    So I think about upgrading to 64-bit windows (which this desktop will accomodate).   But then I see an option on-line to use the PAE memory add-on.   I figure why not give it a try.   I'd have to reformat everything for 64-bit install,  so I've got nothing to lose.

So I install the PAE software fix, and I can see the 4g , I'm still in 32-bit and all windows system values show me that I'm okay for 4g.

However, in PTC/Creo ,  I still getting  video phase outs when I try to assembly parts.  Especially on constraining sections.  I can work around it by rolling the mouse wheel and guessing a lot, but it sure would be nice if PTC/Creo could work in this PAE cluged world.

Anyone had experience with this?    It seems that the PAE memory enhancer doesn't really do what it claims, at least not in Creo.    Or is there a PTC/Creo setting that might resolve this?

I am sure that the PAE is installed properly and the computer is working fine in all other ways.

Thanks for any helpful advice.

Analysis Performance

I'm running a contact analysis on an assembly (15 piece parts).  The 'quick check' is taking a massive amount of time...6+ hrs and I've stopped it several times.  I see in the 'checkpoints log' that it's iterating and has a "residual norm tolerance" of 1e-12 and the iterations are trying to coverge down to this tiny number.  Now, I do have some Agem of '1/8" max. element size' in some cbores and have Agem 'exclude components' that I'm not interested in results (such as the underneath mounting structure).

Can I "exclude" components that have loads/constraints applied to them?  Loosen accuracy...where is this 1e-12 coming from?

How do I govern the model such that "quick check" runs "quickly"?

Thanks,

Sean

PLMS tutorial site- assessments

The PLMS tutorial sites are great.  I use them as supplements in my Intro to Cad class for High School students.   I was using the final assessment (the 60 question multiple choice) as an additional grade for the students.  Then I realized that they have found an easy way to cheat their way through the assessment.   Now I only accept the grade if I see that they have spent time on the unit.

Two questions.

1. Is there any way to secure the answers from the students when they take the assessment quizzes.

2. When the usage report is run,  does it check for actual  click time hands-on or does it just take sign-in and sign-out?    So, if I see that a student has spent 5 hours on the unit,  can I be confident that he/she has really spent 5 hours, or maybe that they just signed in, left the screen up for a few hours and then signed off a few hours later without reading a stitch.

It is unfortunate that students look for the easy way out,  it does eventually catch up with them.

Thanks for any insight into how the PLMS site works.

ptc-creo using curves and surfaces- units???

$

Trying to move into a bit more complex drawing.  I started playing with the style-curves and surfaces options.  After watching a few videos and experimenting with it,  it seems like the way to go for making car bodies and such.

My question is,  how do I get dimensions on any of these drawings?   Annotations don't seem to be available.  There's got to be some way to assign dimensions,  or am I misunderstanding the whole reason for the style option.

I will attach a drawing for example.

Thanks

Window Select parts in a Creo 2 assembly?

Good Monday Morning!

OK, there's my happy face, while trying not to be frustrated.  I'm a new Creo 2 user, coming to this world with 17+ yrs of another CAD package deeply ingrained in my work habits & psyche.  I've go through some of the PTC University training courses, but have many to go.  I'm up to working on assemblies, and I'd really like to be able to 'window select' multiple components in the assembly graphics window.

My searches here & in Creo Help have been fruitless...  can someone please clue me in?  I'm sure this is a simple task and I just haven't found the correct key/button combination to make it happen.

Thanks in advance!

Bill of Material Information Disappears after regeneration

Hi,

I'm hoping this is something simple or just a malfunction of some sort, however, I'm having a issue with my Bill or Material table.

I have all the correct parameters linked to the desired coloms and the correct information displays in the coloms when I initially enter it. However when I either regenerate the drawing, or even move the drawing around the information disappears. Am I missing something, or is there an option I need to change.

I looked into some of the Post-Regeneration options to see if there was anything strange there that would cause the information to disappear upon regeneration.

Please, If you have any knowledge or if anyone else has experienced this, please comment below. I cannot print out this drawing because the information keeps disappearing and thus this is holding up our production process.

Thanks in advance.

When I mirror a part (either through the assembly or the File menu of the part), and select Geometry Only, it never asks me to choose my start part and it creates the mirrored part completely empty. Void of a default CSYS, datums, etc. Is there an option to change this?

Thanks!

Component Sets in Placement Toolbar?

Can anyone explain to me what New Set  does in the Placement Toolbar when placing a component? I would think you can place the part in multiple locations at once, but that didn't seem to work. Any help? I know when you have an interface, the New Set is changed to New Location and that works fine.

Thanks!

Creating Assy Dwgs - Is there a way to pre-set the Simplified Rep?

$

When creating a new drawing (using a template) the Creo dialog forces one to specify an assembly; unfortunatley there is no way to specify which Simp Rep should be used.  The default is to add the Master Rep. Which is fine, unless one is working with a large assembly.  In which case it is highly annoying, because then one first needs to wait for the drawing to be created; then switch any views to the desired Simp Rep; then remove the Master Rep; and finally use "Erase Not Displayed" to reduce memory usage.  By which time one may have experienced a crash due to memory leakage. There's gotta be a better way!  Does anyone else feel my pain?

Setting up modelCHECK conditions

I've set up ModelCHECK and everything is work as I want it too. However, I ran in to a bit of a snag. I have this condition for pipe parts unfortunately modelCHECK is not recognizing the model type condition for pipes and this is a condition that’s listed in the ModelCHECK guide. Now am I doing something wrong? Is there a work around or a fix?

IF (MODEL_TYPE EQ PRT_PIPE) config=(check/ula_checks.mch)(start/ula_piping_start.mcs)(constant/inch.mcn)(status/sample_status.mcq)
