read rpt.index as a parameter

$

My company wants to introduce standard bomballoons values for fasteners.

e.g. A hex_nut_m6 is always number 301.

Now I want to make a repeat region that reads the rpt.index value for all components, but if a component has a parameter called pos_nr, it should obtain that value.

See screenshot, modified in Paint….

I assume this should be possible with relations in repeat regions but I cannot get it to work.

Anybody out there who can help me?

Searching Tool (STRG+F) in PTC Creo - How it works?

Hello PTC user,

the search function (STRG+F) in PTC Creo or ProEngineer is mine and certainly well known to you. Basically, I get clear with it and find also my things which I have to look for.

However, I am currently trying to define predefined searches, which I would then save as a rule. As a rule in layer management, to define a layer master.

To properly include and exclude the various KE's, surfaces, references, cosmetics, notes, etc., the associated rule must also be properly defined and excluded. Otherwise, any of the elements not belonging to the layer will be added to the layer. And right here is my problem.

Because somehow the settings of the search do not really open up to me. In particular, I mean the "Look for" and "Look by" drop-down boxes. Can someone explain these fields to someone more precisely, because even the PTC Consultant who was in our house, could not explain to our satisfaction. In this context, I also wonder why a logical rule for Creo is wrong or can not be generated.

I hope you can give me a help, because this makes me crazy.

Hello

I would like to create snap in mechanism mode for an assembly. Is this possible through toolkit?

Ant thought or some mechanism related API documentation if available would be of great help.

Thanks in advance.

How can I search and select all empty layers in a model?

Hi,

I would like to perform the following search: Type: Layer Properties (Contains Item id) != * (image 1), but I get this error: "Invalid value for Contains Item Id".

If I try this search: Type Layer Properties (Contains Item Type) != * then I get no error, but also no results.

Bonus points for a way to search only empty drawing layers (Type: Layer Owner (Layer Model) = *.drw).

Any ideas?

Hugo

ptc Port Conflict

I have installed Creo 3.0 Student edition recently it worked fine. After one some time when i try to open creo i get error saying-

"Port-conflict" "The previous restart failed. The port 51244 is also occupied. Restart Creo Parametric and all other opened PTC Applications again. We apologize for any inconvenience"

With every restart, the Port number counts up. So now I'm at Port 51256.

I can't contact any support, because i only have the Student Edition.

I use Win 10 64-Bit-Version on a HP Pav Notebook.

Does anybody know what could solve the Problem?

Greetings

Rhishi.

modify ribbon menu icon size

I have a brand new computer to run Creo 3.0.  It has a crazy 4k hi def video card and a 4k hi def monitor. In order to prevent windows 10 video settings from interfering with my awesome video card, I had to disable display scaling in Creo (see properties, compatability). Problem is the windows setting for the 4k high pixels resolution makes the icons in Creo super small. is there a way to set icon size/resolution in Creo to be independent of what it is set to in windows??

how to save all files, delete old versions, and erase not displayed, then close pro?

$

Is this a Mapkey anyone has created?  Unigraphics had a save all and close function that was nice to have especially at the ennd of the day and you need to close a host of files that you have open.

It can be handy to when backing up he opening and reanaming all files backed up and making sure they are all saved and closed.  then when reopening the assm. or drawing files to check the renaming was done correctly and all file open without missing one of a former name.  I backup to create new fixturing that has new part number and design is almost the same, (family table is overkill though)  so to be able to auto save everything and close then erase not displayed would be handy.

Springs distributing the load along lines (or surfaces)

I need to apply a load on a line (force per unit length) which should locally depend on the displacement of the line in a given direction; as for an elastic foundation.

Is there any way to realize this kind of mixed boundary condition along lines?

Visual Studio 2015 and Pro/Toolkit Version < 4.0

Dear all,

I'm using Pro/Tookit to implementing an DLL which provides access to Creo for our main program.

The DLL is loaded by the main program via LoadLibrary() and freed via FreeLibrary().

This can happen more than once.

For a long time i used the Pro/Tookit libraries provided by Creo 1.0.

Now I updated from Visual Studio 2010 to Visual Studio 2015 and I got the issue,

that the second call of LoadLibrary() fails always on some computers.

I guess the problem are the different runtime libraries.

Can this work at all?

I'm reluctant to update to Creo 4.0, because it has no x86 support.

Thanks in advance.

TOP DOWN BEST PRACTICES AND HELP ON SPECIFIC ISSUE

$

I am trying to adopt top down design for my work, but I am facing some issues with the coding (naming) of the parts and assemblies and with the management of the dependencies between the skeletons and parts. In the following I present a simplified (few parts and assemblies) version of a problem that we experienced while trying to adopt top down design for the first time.

TopDown.jpg

With reference to the left top-level_assembly in the attached figure, what I understood is that in the top-level_assembly we have a top-level_skeleton that defines the interfaces and the placement of each sub_assembly. Each sub_assembly, depending on its complexity, can have its own sub_assembly_skeleton that inherits the geometries published from the top-level_skeleton. Eventually inside each sub_assembly we can have other sub-sub_assemblies and parts that inherit the geometries published from the sub_assembly_skeleton (in the diagram only the SUB_ASSEMBLY_3 is exploded).

During the design of our system, at a certain point, we wanted to improve the SUB_ASSEMBLY_3 and this improvement was radical (enough) to require a complete new sub_assembly. But at the same time there were few parts and sub-sub_assemblies that could have been re-used from the old sub_assembly (this means that we used the same files, not a copy of the old files).

In the following, the modified or new assemblies and parts will be named with the "NEW_" prefix (so are different files from the old ones).

Here is what we did:

- create a new_top-level_assembly that has the same (old) skeleton because we don't change any interface between the sub-assemblies

- create the NEW_SUB_ASSEMBLY_3 with its new SUB_ASSEMBLY_3_SKELETON

- create the NEW_SUB-SUB_ASSEMBLY_1, NEW_SUB-SUB_ASSEMBLY_2 and the NEW_PART_1

- inside of the the NEW_SUB_ASSEMBLY_3 assemble the old PART_2 and the old SUB-SUB_ASSEMBLY_3

As you can see from the picture, the problem that we are now facing is that some elements (parts and assemblies) of the NEW_TOP_LEVEL_ASSEMBLY depend from the old TOP_LEVEL_ASSEMBLY. Obviously we did a mistake, but the lack of time and the complexity of the sub-sub_assemblies and parts guided our decision to re-use the old elements.

Questions:

- how would you have managed the improvement of the SUB_ASSEMBLY_3? Is it correct to create a new top-level_assembly? Please consider that we should always have a complete assembly of our system ready for production, and that we can not produce something that has not been tested at least once.

- can you suggest me a good guide/book to learn top-down design? So far I only found some internet videos and articles.

- how do you define how many nested skeleton there should be? Theoretically we could have a skeleton in each sub-...-sub assembly.

- which information are usually stored in the skeletons?

- considering the issue with the naming convention (keep the same name for parts and assembly re-used) do you have some suggestion to improve the coding of the files? Can you suggest me a book or guide? I would like to understand how large assemblies are managed, like for example in car industry.

I heard that probably a PLM like windchill could solve some of my issues, but for the moment in my company we don't want to buy it because we are a small group. However, I am interested in knowing how a PLM could solve my problems.
